Firms are finding it difficult to justify devoting resources to teaching interns how to use their systems and processes in place, as well as the regulatory & compliance rules – and that’s all before they can get down to the actual work that the role entails. Unfortunately, it is also becoming increasingly necessary for graduates to have undertaken work experience in order to secure permanent employment. As such, I am fortunate indeed that DGS were willing to take me on for paid work experience, for a month over the summer.
If I had to highlight the best element of working at DGS, it would undoubtedly be the people. Although I have previous experience of working in an office environment, I could not have imagined what a great place DGS is to work. Everyone I met – whether I was working alongside them on many different cases or only met them briefly – was extremely kind, patient and keen to help me learn. I was treated as an equal member of the team and given work that made me feel as if I was making a genuine contribution. Everyone was extremely encouraging and happy to give their time to help me with any problems I encountered.
The relaxed and friendly working environment that Steve and Doug have created is coupled with a wholly professional approach to the work. DGS take pride in their ‘Chartered’ Financial Planners status, indicating the highest possible standard of adviser expertise. There is a strong emphasis on truly working in the clients’ best interests in order to forge fruitful long term relationships. This ideology was hammered into me from day one and I feel that DGS’ success is due in no small part to these strong principles.
