It is prudent to consider the benefits of having a critical illness policy. With advances in modern medicine; you are likely to survive a critical illness in this day and age than at any time in the past.
A very high proportion of people who suffer from a serious illness, survive for many years after diagnosis.
A critical illness plan will pay the sum assured on diagnosis of specified illnesses. These normally include heart-attack, stroke, kidney failure, cancer, multiple sclerosis, major organ transplant, coronary artery by-pass surgery and permanent total disability. These are known as the ‘core conditions’ and account for the vast majority of all claims.
The comprehensiveness of conditions covered can vary greatly from one provider to the next. However, most providers conform to the Association of British Insurers Standards for qualifying illnesses and it is important that you fully understand the terms of each illness.
Critical Illness cover can be arranged on a stand alone basis or in conjunction with Life Assurance.
